Malé

Kuda Banana Reef Gaathu Giri

Kuda Banana Reef – Gaathu Giri is a small, shallow coral reef site near Malé. The reef sits in the protected atoll lagoon area and typically features clear, warm water with gentle to moderate currents. Expect a forgiving entry from the surface or a short boat or jetty approach, with a gradual slope and a mix of hard corals, soft corals, and a variety of reef fish. Common sightings include damselfish, angelfish, parrotfish, and schools of small fusiliers, with occasional sea turtles and reef sharks reported in broader Maldivian reef systems. Visibility is often good to excellent, particularly after calm, windless periods. This site is suitable for beginner to intermediate divers and for macro enthusiasts who will find small nudibranchs and critters among the coral heads. Given its proximity to Malé and Gulhi Falhu, it’s a convenient option for a short half-day outing from the capital.
