Mġarr

Red Bay Caves

Red Bay Caves is a sheltered Maltean coastal site featuring a network of cave-like passages and caverns along a rocky seabed. Accessible from nearby bays, divers typically enter through sheltered openings and explore shallow to mid-depth chambers with branching tunnels. Conditions are generally calm, with moderate visibility and variable currents depending on tides. The site supports macro and reef life typical of Maltese waters, including small groupers, moray eels, octopus, and diverse invertebrates, while the cave geometry offers interesting swim-throughs and navigation challenges for beginners with basic cavern training and more for experienced divers. Access is straightforward from local shore or boats, with nearby dive centers offering guided dives and boat transfers from Mġarr, Qala, and Sannat. Nearby coastal features and shallow reefs provide multiple entry points and easy ascent routes.
