Hyères

Sec Du Gendarme, Porquerolles

Sec du Gendarme on Porquerolles is a rocky drop-off site in the Hyères area, reached easily from Porquerolles Island. The site sits on a sloping wall with depth variation from shallow to deeper shelves, popular for its clear water and diverse rocky habitat. Divers typically drop from a reef edge onto a vertical wall that runs down to around 25–30 metres, with passages and small crevices that attract a range of Mediterranean species. Expect a calm, sheltered conditions shielded by the island, with good visibility on clear days. Typical Western Mediterranean species such as groupers, wrasse, moray eels, octopus and parrotfish are common, along with posidonia meadows in the surrounding sand and rocky habitats. The site is usually accessed by boats from the Hyères area and the nearby villages, with easier logistics in the summer season.
