Key Largo
Buckwheat Reef
Buckwheat Reef is a shallow coral reef site off Key Largo, accessible within a short boat ride from the town. The reef features a mosaic of live corals, sea fans, and patchy sand pockets, providing a home for common reef fish, moray eels, and smaller snappers. Entry is typically from a local dive boat in calm conditions, with water temperatures generally in the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (24–30°C) depending on the season. Visibility is variable but often ranges from moderate to good for the area. This site is suitable for beginner to intermediate divers who want a relaxed reef dive with straightforward navigation and opportunities to observe a variety of hard and soft corals.
