La Perouse Bay

La Perouse Bay is a coastal dive site located on Maui’s southeastern shore. The site is typically accessed from the nearby coastal areas of Kanahena, Makena, or Kihei, with divers noting a straightforward entry from the rocky shoreline into clear, warm tropical waters. The marine environment features a combination of lava rock formations, reef patches, and sandy pockets that host a variety of shallow-water life. Expect calm conditions in sheltered areas, with visibility often good on calm days. Common species around Maui include reef fish such as parrotfish and damselfish, reef-associated moray eels, and occasional sea turtles cruising the shallows. This site is suited for introductory to intermediate dives, with depths generally staying within a shallow to moderate range and several swim-through opportunities among lava flows and reef edges.
