Birgu

Birgu is a historic fortress town in Malta, located on the southeast coast near the larger island of Malta. It isn’t a primary diving hub, but the broader Maltese archipelago offers excellent diving. Nearby access includes short boat trips from Valletta or other coastal towns to nearby Maltese reefs, walls, and caves in the Mediterranean. For divers based in Birgu, consider day trips to nearby dive centers around the Grand Harbour area for guided dives, gear rental, and courses. The water is typically clear with warm temperatures in summer and good visibility, and marine life includes reef fish, groupers, and occasionally larger species farther offshore. Freshwater options are not a feature of Birgu itself, as the area is coastal and marine-focused.
