Manikata

Popey Village

Popey Village is a shallow coastal area in the Maltese archipelago that forms a calm, rocky shoreline ideal for introductory shore dives and training. The site typically features gentle slopes with rocky outcrops and some sandy patches nearby. Access is straightforward from nearby towns, with the closest hubs being the coastal towns of Manikata, Mellieħa, and Saint Paul’s Bay. Marine life is representative of Maltese coastal habitats, including dusky groupers, eel, wrasse, and playful octopus, while Posidonia meadows provide habitat for numerous small fish and invertebrates. Visibility is usually good in calm conditions, and water remains relatively temperate year-round. Divers should plan around mild currents and watch for sharp rocky areas underfoot during entry and exit.
