Molokini Crater
Molokini Crater is a crescent-shaped volcanic atoll offshore from Maui, known for its clear water, strong currents, and rich coral gardens. The site lies in shallow to mid depths with a wall-like plateau and a steep drop-off into blue water, offering visibility typically above 20 m on calm days. Divers commonly enter from a boat via a mooring line and follow the reef edge or explore inside the crater’s shallows. Expect abundant marine life including reef fish, thatched corals, and occasional turtles; the protection of the crater helps sustain vibrant habitats. It's best suited for intermediate divers due to fluctuating currents and depth transitions; always plan buoyancy and safety stops. Nearby access points from Kihei and Makena make it a popular day trip.
