Tumbatu Reef

Tumbatu reef is a coastal reef dive site off the northwest coast, near the island of Tumbatu. Access is straightforward from nearby towns, with typical conditions expected for tropical reef diving: moderate currents, clear to green-blue water, and a sandy to rubble bottom surrounding the reef. Expect a variety of tropical reef life common to East African/coastal Indian Ocean environments, including small schooling fish, fusiliers, wrasses, damselfish, moray eels, and occasional larger groupers or reef sharks in suitable zones. The topography features a reef wall and shallow plateau areas suitable for photographers and drift enthusiasts. Entry and exit are usually from sandy beaches or small boat moorings, with visibility often ranging from good to moderate depending on weather and tides. Always dive within limits and follow local guidelines, as currents can shift quickly in this region.
