Piton De Mahahonu

Piton de Mahahonu is a volcanic seamount off the northwest coast of Mahé Island in the French Polynesian archipelago. This site features a submerged volcanic cone that rises from deep water, creating a series of walls, gullies and columns covered with hard corals and sponges. Depths at the site are generally moderate to deep, with currents that can be present depending on tides, making it suitable for experienced divers with proper training. Typical marine life includes diverse reef fish, large groupers, occasional reef sharks, and pelagic species that follow the thermocline. Access is by boat from nearby coastal communities, and diving often involves drift or wall exploration along the seamount’s exterior and interior swim-throughs.
