French Polynesia

French Polynesia in the South Pacific is a classic destination for warm-water scuba diving around high islands and low atolls. Most diving is in clear lagoon and reef environments, with sandy slopes, coral gardens, passes, and deeper channels where currents can build on some sites. Visibility is often good, especially outside the wet season, and temperatures are generally comfortable for year-round diving. Divers commonly encounter reef fish, schools of butterflyfish and wrasses, eagle rays and reef sharks on suitable dives, plus periodic encounters with larger pelagics depending on conditions. Access is typically via local dive centers from hubs such as Papeete and nearby towns, using boat trips for the more exposed reef and pass areas.
