Les Grottes Du Portail

Les Grottes du Portail is a coastal dive site located near Saint-Leu on Réunion Island. It comprises a series of rocky caves and swim-throughs with moderate depth and sheltered conditions, suitable for intermediate divers depending on exposure. Access is typically from shore or a small local boat, with entry point along a reef crest that drops into a series of caverns and tunnels. The site features rock overhangs, crevices, and small gaps that shelter a variety of reef fishes common to the western Indian Ocean, including damselfish, wrasse, and the occasional moray. Visibility varies with sea conditions but is generally good to moderate. Currents, when present, are usually mild and best managed by conscientious buoyancy and no-reef contact diving. This site is commonly combined with other nearby reefs along the Saint-Leu/L'Étang-Salé coastline for a half- to full-day dive outing.
