Kichafi is a coastal dive site located near Nungwi on Zanzibar’s northern shore. The site sits in shallow tropical waters with easy access from nearby beaches. Expect a sloping seabed, sandy patches, and occasional small ledges that harbor a mix of reef life typical of the Western Indian Ocean. Visibility is variable but generally good in calm conditions, with warm water year-round. Common species include reef fish such as fusiliers, snappers, parrotfish, and occasional marine invertebrates like urchins and starfish. The site is suitable for beginner to intermediate divers and can be paired with nearby sheltered cuts for drift-free snorkeling when currents are light. Access is straightforward from the area’s guest lodgings and dive centers operating in Nungwi and Kendwa.
