Moorea Maiao
Couloir Des Raies Moorea
Couloir des raies is a shallow, drift-style dive along Moorea’s outer reef commonly accessed from the west coast. The site features a sandy channel bordered by coral heads and patches of rubble, creating a natural corridor where mantas and eagle rays are often spotted gliding in the upper pelagic zone. Depths typically range from a few to about 18–20 metres, with a gentle current that suits recreational divers with drift awareness. Entry is straightforward from a pier or boat drop, and visibility is usually good in calm seas. The surrounding lagoon and outer reef habitats host a mix of parrotfish, damselfish, surgeonfishes, and occasional reef sharks in deeper sections near the drop-off. Local boats operate out of Moorea and nearby villages such as Papetoï and Tiahura, which lie within a short scenic transfer time.
