Andalusia offers Atlantic and Mediterranean diving along a long southern coastline, with conditions shaped by the Strait of Gibraltar. Divers typically find rocky shores, sheltered bays, and offshore drops, while currents can increase encounter rates of pelagic species near the Gibraltar area. Around cities such as Almuñécar and Nerja, visibility varies with weather, and dives often focus on coastal reef structures and small-to-medium marine life. Farther west and along the Costa del Sol, most access is from beaches and short boat trips. Tarifa, close to the Strait, is a notable hub for sites influenced by stronger water movement. Inland, freshwater diving can be possible in local lakes such as Laguna de la Caldera, which is a different experience from saltwater coastal reefs.
