Mataró

Mataró is a coastal city in Catalonia, close to Barcelona, with day trips to the nearby Mediterranean diving areas. Being right on the shoreline, it’s a practical base if you’re looking for easy access to saltwater training and guided dives, typically from the coast and sometimes by short boat rides depending on the dive center and conditions. Expect temperatures to vary seasonally and visibility to depend on weather and water movement. Local conditions are generally more suited to divers who want regular water time and reef/rock habitats rather than big remote “destination” dives. If you’re chasing freshwater variety, Banyoles Lake in the wider region is used by some divers for lake outings, but it’s outside the city itself.
