L'escala

L’Escala sits on Spain’s Costa Brava in Catalonia, with access to the Mediterranean’s western basin. From the town, divers typically plan short boat rides to nearby rocky reefs, small cliffs, and sheltered coves rather than big open-water features. Visibility is usually best on calmer days, and conditions can vary with wind and season. Expect a mix of temperate Mediterranean reef life and schooling fish, along with opportunities for basic navigation dives over familiar coastal terrain. If you prefer freshwater, Banyoles Lake in the wider area is a more “local outing” option than a coastal substitute, but you’ll need to treat it as separate from the sea diving plans. Many visits are organized around day trips with local dive operators.
