Morro Das Capelas

Morro das Capelas is a shallow shore dive site on the volcanic Azorean coast, accessible from Calhetas and nearby towns. The area features a gentle topography with lava formations and rocky patches suitable for entry from a sandy shoreline. Expect clear Atlantic water with moderate visibility and typical coastal fauna. The site is commonly used for beginner and training dives, with easy navigation along short profiles. Divers may encounter small invertebrates, blennies, wrasses and shore-associated species typical of Azorean rocky habitats. Stronger currents are uncommon in calm conditions but can appear with swell, so plan for mild drift potential and buoyancy control. Access from Calhetas, Rabo de Peixe or Ponta Delgada is straightforward within 15–30 minutes drive, making it a convenient local option for a relaxed dive near the city of Ponta Delgada.
