La Matella

La Matella is a coastal dive site near Mataró on the Catalan coast, typically reached within a short drive from the nearby towns of Mataró, Sant Andreu de Llavaneres and Sant Vicenç de Montalt. The site spans nearshore rocky bottoms with easy access and a calm, shallow profile suitable for beginner and recreational dives. Expect clear Mediterranean water conditions with moderate visibility and typical Western Mediterranean marine life. Depths are usually shallow over sand and rocky outcrops, with gentle slopes and occasional swim-throughs along the rocky seabed. It is commonly used by local dive centers for practice dives and for those exploring Catalonia’s nearshore habitats. Access is straightforward from the coast, with parking and shore entry commonly available. The site is best dived in calm weather and outside of strong tidal influence.
