Piti

Barge Reef

Barge Reef is a shore-accessible South Pacific dive site located near Piti, Asan, and Hågat municipalities. The site sits on a gently sloping sandy bottom with scattered coral patches and a small patchwork of rubble and artificial debris that creates sheltered pockets for macro life. Entry is straightforward from the beach or via a small rocky incline, with visibility typically in the range expected for local tropical lagoons. Expect common Western Pacific reef fish, small moray eels, goatfish, reef prawns and occasional turtles around artificial structures. The reef’s shallow to mid-depth profile makes it suitable for introductory dives and reef-dloat practice, with calm-water conditions usually prevailing on sunny days; currents can be variable near higher-profile sections. Overall, Barge Reef offers a relaxed, accessible dive with interesting man-made features that appeal to macro enthusiasts and those building basic reef-dive skills.
