Deerfield Beach

Ancient Mariner (Wreck)

The Ancient Mariner is a historic wreck site off Deerfield Beach, Florida. The steel steamer lies in shallow to moderate depths typical of nearshore wrecks and sits in relatively clear Atlantic waters. Access is by boat from local dive charters, with entry from sheltered lee to minimize surface conditions. The wreck rests on a sandy bottom and is often encrusted with corals, sponges and a variety of reef-associated life that colonises wrecks along Florida’s Atlantic coast. Expect a somber metal silhouette, with swim-through opportunities around exposed sections and debris fields. Visibility can vary with current and weather, and dive planning should account for tides and bottom conditions. This site is suitable for recreational divers with experience in buoyancy control and wreck awareness, and nearby reefs and sea life may include snappers, small groupers, grunts and flounders typical of the region.
