Altare is a coastal dive site near Portofino, in the Ligurian Sea. Accessible from the local towns, it sits along a rocky seabed with modest depths suitable for recreational dives. Expect clear Mediterranean water, typical rocky substrate, and moderate current in some conditions. The site commonly features rocky outcrops, subtle swim-throughs, and a variety of Western Mediterranean fauna such as wrasses, damselfish, groupers, octopus, and lobsters around the rocky patches and crevices. It is often explored as a drift or wall-style dive depending on the current and the chosen entry point, with multiple shelves and small caves to investigate. Access from nearby coastal towns is straightforward, and local centers offer guided dives and equipment rental. This site is best suited to divers with basic skills who are comfortable navigating around rocky features and potential surge near the shore.
