Guayaquil

Guayaquil is a coastal city in western Ecuador and a major economic hub on the South Pacific. It is not a traditional diving gateway by itself, but the nearby coast offers access to a variety of dive sites along the Ecuadorian Pacific, including warm tropical waters, clear visibility, and abundant marine life. Within the city, there are a small number of dive operators that serve day trips and PADI-style courses from the waterfront. For divers, Guayaquil works best as a stopover or transit point to better-known diving areas along the Ecuadorian coast or the nearby Canoa, Montañita, or Machalilla regions; expect generally warm seas, moderate currents, and typical reef‑fish and occasional pelagics off more distant sites. If you’re here for a short stay, local diving is accessible, but most divers head to other coastal towns for the best underwater experiences.
