Káto Stalós
Theodorou Island
Theodorou Island offers a straightforward coastal dive in clear, shallow waters with access from the nearby towns on Crete. The site typically features a sloping sandy/rocky seabed, gentle drop-offs, and a collection of small reef blocks close to the reef margin. Visibility is usually good in calm conditions, and currents are generally mild, making it accessible for recreational divers and those new to Mediterranean diving. Common marine life includes small groupers, wrasses, damselfish, octopus, and moray eels, with posidonia meadows nearby supporting a healthy reef community. Entry is easy from a shore or short boat transfer, with dives often focused on reef topography, macro life, and easy swims along the edge of the shelf. Nearby dive centers in Chania and the surrounding area frequently run guided dives to this island, and it’s a popular option for a relaxed day of shore or short-boat diving off western Crete.
