State Harbor is a shallow, practical dive site near Stock Island and Key West, set along the Florida Keys. The site typically features calm conditions with sandy or seagrass bottom in the nearshore area, making it approachable for introductory dives and training. Depths are generally shallow, suited to beginner to intermediate divers, with easy entry from the shoreline or a small pier depending on the area. Expect calm, warm Caribbean-like water, clear to lightly murky visibility, and a mix of reef-like structures, seagrass beds, and man-made structures such as mooring anchors or pilings in some spots. Common Western Atlantic species—reef fish, parrotfish, damselfish, snappers, lobsters, and occasional rays—inhabit the area around the bottom features and interface with the surrounding seagrass habitats. The site can offer easy drift or sand-and-structure exploration depending on conditions and access points.
