Camogli
Secca Carega
Secca Carega is a small seamount off the Ligurian coast near Portofino. The site is typically reached by a short boat transfer and features a rocky pinnacle that rises from deeper water to near-surface depths. Expect drift conditions with clear, cold water and good visibility seasonally, especially in summer. The topography includes a summit plateau and surrounding slopes that attract a variety of Mediterranean life. Common species in the western Ligurian Sea include groupers, wrasses, damselfish, octopus, and occasionally larger pelagics along the blue water edge. This site is well-suited to experienced beginners with buoyancy control and current awareness, though local conditions can change quickly. Access is facilitated from Portofino or the nearby ports of Camogli and Santa Margherita Ligure, each within a short boat ride. Divers should verify current conditions locally and follow safe ascent practices on the return to the boat.
