Roca Mar

Roca Mar is a shallow reef site near Caniço, Madeira, known for a sheltered topography and easy entry. The site features a sloping rocky reef with scattered boulders and small crevices that host a range of Mediterranean- and Atlantic-adjacent species typical to Madeira’s coastal waters. Expect clear visibility in good conditions and gentle currents suitable for beginners and snorkelers venturing into shallow scuba. Typical inhabitants include damselfish, wrasse, moray eels, and schools of small reef fish, with occasional larger visitors around the drop-offs. Access is straightforward from the rocky shoreline, with parking nearby and a short swim from the beach. The site lies within easy reach of Funchal and nearby towns, making it a convenient option for a half-day dive among coastal reefs.
