Monastery Beach

Monastery Beach is a local coastal site near Carmel-by-the-Sea, well known for its scenic shoreline and consistent conditions before swells wrap in. The dive area is typically shallow with a sandy to cobblestone bottom and limited structural features, making it more suitable for drift or entry-level shore dives when the sea state allows. Expect visibility that varies with tides and currents, and a bottom composed of sand and small rocks. Marine life is common to the Monterey Bay area, including juvenile and small reef fish, as well as a variety of invertebrates along the seabed. Access is straightforward from the nearby coastline, with the primary entry from the beach depending on parking and local conditions. This site is best approached with current and weather checks in mind and is often used by local divers for practice and surface intervals rather than as a major destination dive.
