Matavera Point

Matavera Point is a local reef dive site near the village of Matavera on Rarotonga. The site typically features a shallow reef flat that slopes into clearer, deeper water with healthy coral growth and a variety of reef fish. Entry is usually from a calm shore or small beach, making it suitable for beginner to intermediate divers depending on swell and visibility. The surrounding area can offer views of white-sand patches and patches of seagrass, with standard Western Pacific reef species such as damselfish, parrotfish, wrasse, groupers, and occasional reef sharks or turtles in favorable conditions. Conditions are generally calm in sheltered weather, with visibility commonly ranging from a few meters to modest clarity on good days.
