Honokohau
Honolua Bay
Honolua Bay is a high-relevance tropical dive site on Maui’s northwestern coast. It features a shallow, sheltered bay with a mix of coral reef and rocky substrate, typically diveable from a few meters down to around 20 meters. Expect clear visibility in calm conditions and gentle currents that suit both intermediate and experienced divers. The site commonly hosts a diverse array of reef fishes, including surgeonfishes, parrotfishes, wrasses, and damselfishes, plus occasional turtles and octopuses around the rocky outcrops. Entry is usually from a beach or boat, with straightforward navigation along the reef edge. The area is well-known for macro life in its rubble zones and for its seasonal pelagic activity in deeper sections. Proximity to nearby towns like Honokohau and Kapalua makes access convenient for day trips.
