Haera

Haera is a coastal dive site near Santa Cruz on Madeira. The site typically features a shallow reef with a gentle slope and scattered rocky outcrops that attract a variety of Mediterranean- and Atlantic-influenced marine life. Expect clear water conditions in favorable weather, visibility commonly ranging from good to excellent for the region, with moderate currents near drop-offs. Entry is straightforward from a shore or small boat ramp, making it accessible to introductory to intermediate divers. The habitat supports common local species such as damselfish, wrasses, moray eels, stingrays, and occasional octopus, with healthier coral growth and sponges on some sections. The site is often used for training and drift dives when conditions allow, and is well-suited for a relaxed day of underwater exploration close to Santa Cruz, Machico, and Caniço.
