Protaras

Fig Tree Beach

Fig Tree Beach is a coastal dive site near Protaras on the southeast coast of Cyprus. The site lies in shallow, reef-proximate waters with typical Mediterranean-Red Sea-inspired temperate conditions due to the area’s marine mix. Divers usually start from the sandy punch or small rocky outcrops and descend to gentle slopes and patches of seagrass. Visibility is commonly good enough for relaxed diving, with water temperatures in the warm to mild range for the region. The site is suitable for beginner to intermediate divers, and can be combined with a short surface interval at nearby beaches or the Protaras-Paralimni Ayia Napa corridor. Marine life often includes common Mediterranean species that inhabit nearshore reefs and seagrass beds, such as damselfish, wrasse, blennies, and octopus in crevices. Keep an eye out for shy smaller reef fishes and seasonal sightings of larger pelagic visitors during calm conditions.
