South Hams
Crown Hill Bay
Crown Hill Bay is a shallow, sheltered coastal site ideal for calm-water dives near the South Hams coast. The area features sandy seabeds with patches of seagrass and scattered rocks that create gentle underwater topography. Access is straightforward for shore-based or boat-divers, with relatively easy entry from beaches in light to moderate swell conditions. Typical visibility in calm days allows relaxed exploration of the seabed, where divers may observe common temperate-water species such as groupers, wrasse, gobies, and wrasse along with docile flatfish and crabs among the sand and rocky outcrops. Currents are usually mild, but can pick up with weather changes; plan for light current and buoyancy control. This site suits beginner to intermediate divers and training dives, especially in calm conditions, and is often used as a local practice area for skills near Plymouth and the South Hams.
