Cawsand

Cawsand Bay

Cawsand Bay is a sheltered coastal site along the Plymouth Sound area, typical of southwest Cornwall's nearshore reefs. The dive is mainly reef and sandy bottom with a mix of kelp patches and small rocky outcrops close to shore. Access is straightforward from the beach or a short paddle from the boat launch, with shallow entry in calm conditions. Expect moderate visibility and typical temperate-water marine life for the region, including wrasse, blennies, pollock, and juvenile bass, plus moray/shore crabs in crevices. The site is well-suited to beginner to intermediate divers and training dives when sea conditions allow. Nearby anchorages and local centers in the area support shore dives from Cawsand Bay, Freathy and Torpoint, giving easy options for repeat dives and drift opportunities along the coast.
