Muri
Avana Passage
Avana Passage is a coastal dive site off Avana, offering access from nearby villages such as Muri, Matavera, and Avarua. It features a shallow-to-moderate depth profile typical of reef passes, with clear water and good visibility on calm days. Divers often explore a gently sloping coral garden and sandy patches that host a variety of tropical reef life. Expect schools of small reef fish, groupers, and occasional barracuda; sightings of turtles and manta rays are possible but not guaranteed. Current conditions can vary with tides, and drift diving is common along the channel between the outer reef and the lagoon. Entrance is straightforward from shore or small local boats. The site is suitable for certified recreational divers and can be paired with nearby reef dives to form a relaxed half- or full-day dive. Nearby towns with road access and short drives provide convenient support and gear services.
