Areal da Lapa is a coastal dive site on Madeira Island known for its shallow, sheltered depths and easy access from the shoreline. The site typically features a gentle sloping seabed with rocky outcrops and patches of sandy bottom, suitable for beginner divers or for a relaxed training dive. Visibility is commonly variable but can be good in calm conditions, and currents are usually mild. The site supports a range of Western Atlantic/Madeira coastal fauna such as small reef fish, wrasse, blennies, and cuttlefish, with occasional sightings of octopus around crevices. Entry is from the beach or a short rocky ladder, making it convenient for in-water practice and short, friendly dives near Ribeira Brava and nearby towns like Câmara de Lobos and Ponta do Sol.
