In practice, divers typically base in Havana or Varadero for day trips to reefs, walls, and wrecks offshore. The Gulf of Mexico setting and North Atlantic positioning means warm Caribbean waters with moderate visibility nearshore, and better conditions may be found on diving excursions by boat from regional hubs.
