Sites are often around island reefs, drop-offs, and steeper coastal slopes, with conditions that can change quickly due to weather and local currents. Expect tropical water temperatures most of the year, with visibility ranging from moderate to good depending on the season and location. Divers commonly look for healthy coral growth, larger reef fish, and the variety of marine life typical of remote island passages. Historical wreck diving is also possible in some areas, connected to World War II activity, but local conditions and site depth vary a lot from one operator to another. For trip planning, most dive bases are concentrated in the western/central island chain around places like Gizo, Munda, Noro, and Tulagi, and itineraries can include multi-day boat diving to reach more exposed outer sites.
