Hong Kong is a compact, mostly coastal scuba-diving destination in the South China Sea, with access to shore dives and occasional boat trips. Diving is largely around Hong Kong Island, Lantau, and the Sai Kung area, where you can find rocky coastlines, small drop-offs, and sheltered spots that are practical for training and local sightseeing. Conditions can vary a lot by season: water is typically warmer in summer and cooler in winter, while visibility may drop during rougher weather or after rain. Expect primarily local, nearshore marine life rather than the kind of large offshore ecosystems found in far more exposed tropical reefs. Because diving is concentrated and often weather-dependent, planning ahead with local dive centers is especially important for currents, swell, and site access.
