Avarua

Avarua sits on the main island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands and serves as the island’s capital and gateway for visitors. While the town itself is not a dedicated dive hub, the surrounding coastal area on Rarotonga offers reef dives, calm lagoons, and access to local dive centers and boats operating from the island. Given there are dive sites around the island, divers often use Avarua as a base for day trips to nearby reefs, with conditions typically warm and tropical and visibility influenced by weather. Freshwater options are not a feature here, and most diving activity centers on coastal, saltwater reef environments around the island.
