Western Australia

Western Australia is a large Indian Ocean state with diving that ranges from sheltered inshore reefs to big-reef and deep-water areas offshore. In the south and around coastal towns such as Perth and Fremantle, divers can find a mix of rocky coastlines, kelp and reef systems, and drift or current-influenced dives depending on the site. Farther north, around Exmouth (Shire of Exmouth) and the broader Gascoyne region, conditions often suit visiting by boat to reach more exposed reefs and wall-like drop-offs. Along the coast, visibility can be excellent when weather is calm, while currents may increase at certain points and times. Typical marine life includes reef fish, rays, turtles where present, and a variety of invertebrates; seasonal changes can strongly affect what you see. The region is best approached through local dive centers for site selection, safety briefings, and tide/current planning.
