Les Amphores De Niolon

Les amphores de Niolon is a coastal dive site near Marseille, located in the Calanques area along the Mediterranean. The site centers on a shallow rocky seabed where archaeological amphora remnants are reported resting on or near the seabed, often in the 6–18 meter range depending on tide and drift. Entry is through gentle-slope beaches or small rocky ledges with a straightforward exit, making it accessible for experienced recreational divers and those new to coastal Mediterranean sites with proper guidance. The surrounding waters host typical Western Mediterranean life, including groupers, the occasional moray eel, octopus, wrapping invertebrates, and seasonal shoals. The site can be affected by seasonal conditions and surface conditions, so plan for moderate surge and possible currents. As with many Niolon-area sites, local divers appreciate the reef-like structure, visibility that varies with weather, and the proximity to nearby towns such as Le Rove, Ensuès-la-Redonne, and Marseille for access.
