On the Andaman Sea side (around Phuket, Krabi, and the nearby islands), dives are typically saltwater with warm tropical water and visibility that varies with the season. On the Gulf of Thailand side (including areas like Ko Tao and Ko Pha-ngan), the water is also warm year-round and many trips are boat or short-hops from island resorts and training beaches. Expect a mix of rocky reefs, coral areas, sandy patches, and dive sites shaped by channels and currents—conditions often depend on wind and monsoon patterns. Inland diving is limited for most visiting divers, so the main focus is coastal and island diving.
