Indonesia is a large tropical archipelago with scuba diving across warm saltwater seas: the Indian Ocean and multiple Pacific-related waters. Most diving access is from coastal resorts and liveaboards, with conditions that can vary a lot by region. On the popular areas around Bali, North Sulawesi, and North Maluku, divers typically get clear blue water, reef and wall habitats, and strong seasonal changes driven by currents and local weather. Visibility can be excellent when seas are calm, while current-heavy days suit experienced divers. Plan for a wider range of temperatures and dive profiles than in many single-island destinations, and expect that sites often involve boat rides to reach the best reefs and drop-offs.
