Egypt is one of the world’s top scuba diving destinations, best known for the Red Sea. Diving is concentrated along the Red Sea coast and around South Sinai: resorts such as Hurghada and Safaga are popular for coral reefs, walls, drop-offs, and easy access for many certification levels. Farther south, Sharm El Sheikh offers a mix of sheltered sites and dramatic terrain, with visibility that can be excellent in good conditions. Taba sits on the Gulf of Aqaba side, where divers can find cooler water, strong geology, and reliable sites when weather is favorable. Egypt also has Mediterranean diving near the eastern basin, but options are more limited compared with the Red Sea. Most dives are in salt water, typically in warm water for much of the year, with currents varying by site.
