Tarifa sits at the southern edge of mainland Europe where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean influence. It’s best known as a wind-swept coastal town and a gateway for surfers and travelers, but it also serves as a practical access point for divers exploring the Strait of Gibraltar. Local dive centers mainly run trips to nearby reef and wall sites along the strait and into the shallower coastal zones. Water is typically cool year-round with moderate visibility, and marine life includes typical temperate Atlantic species, with occasional pelagic sightings from passing currents. A nearby freshwater option exists in the Laguna de la Caldera, which is used more for training or relaxed dives rather than as a primary destination for coastal diving.
