Gangneung Si

Gangneung is a coastal city on Korea’s east coast, facing the sea and serving as a gateway to the Gangneung area. There are several diving centers in the broader region and a handful of dive sites nearby along the coast with shore and boat access. The area features typical North Pacific coastal conditions, with temperate water, seasonal visibility changes, and local marine life such as small reef fish and kelp-associated ecosystems. While not a top global diving hub, the city provides practical access to coastal reefs and nearby shipwrecks along the eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula, and is a common base for divers exploring Gangwon-do’s maritime scenery.
