Timaru

Timaru is a small coastal city on New Zealand’s South Island. It sits along the south-eastern coast but is not a major scuba gateway. Nearby access to diving is limited; there are a few local dive opportunities or training options, but Timaru itself is more known for its seafront, port heritage, and regional scenery. For divers, the closest practical options would be day trips or centers in larger nearby hubs within Canterbury or further along the coast, and freshwater dive options exist in the wider region for training or skill practice when conditions don’t permit sea diving.
