Occitania

Occitania spans inland areas and a Mediterranean coastline in the southwest of France. For scuba divers, most of the saltwater diving is focused along the nearby Mediterranean shore in the Pyrénées-Orientales area, around Cerbère, Banyuls-sur-Mer, and Port-Vendres, where rocky coasts, small coves, and sheltered sites are common. Conditions are typically seasonal, with visibility influenced by weather and coastal currents, and dive teams often plan short shore entries mixed with boat dives for better depth and exposure. You can expect a temperate Mediterranean mix of algae-covered rocks and natural ledges, with common sightings including octopus, small reef fish, and nudibranchs, along with seasonal variations in activity and water clarity. Inland, freshwater diving is possible in select lakes, but it’s a separate choice from the Mediterranean sea experience.
