Western Sambo Reef is a shallow reef dive in the Florida Keys, typically accessed from Stock Island or Key West. The site features a low-profile ridge and patchy coral heads with sand channels between, making it suitable for beginner to intermediate divers. Expect clear tropical waters and visibility that varies with conditions. Common reef inhabitants include colorful damselfish, wrasses, parrotfish, and small groupers, with chances of seeing nurse sharks or eels in crevices. Entry is by boat from nearby marinas; currents are generally mild but can pick up with tides. The site is part of the Florida Keys reef system, offering an accessible introduction to reefs in the lower Keys while remaining near popular dive hubs.
